The last Annual Meeting of the Madison County Historical Society was held on Sunday, May 3rd, featuring Mike Vogt of the Iowa Gold Star Museum at Camp Dodge.

The following minutes are to be approved at the 2016 Annual Meeting:

May 3, 2015

President Robert Young called the annual meeting of the Madison County Historical Society to order at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 3, 2015. President Young called upon JoAnne Walker to read the minutes of the 2014 Annual Meeting.  Motion was made by Bill Paull to approve the minutes, seconded by Jim Rhoads. Carried.

President Young called upon Tim Waddingham to give the Treasurer’s report. Tim reported this had been a good year for the society with total fund income of $330,718. Total operating expense was $196,131. He reported $44,805 was transferred to the Endowment Fund and $91,000 to savings. The Endowment Fund is $2,647,022. A copy of the Treasurer’s report is attached and made a part of these minutes. Bill Paull moved the Treasurer’s report be approved, seconded by John Stowell. Carried.

President Young called upon Manager Jared McDonald to give his report. Jared reported the painting of the McKee barn is done, and the painting of the depot is about finished. The railroad baggage cart has been restored by Gary Walker. Junk Fest is postponed to 2016. The car show will be held on Saturday June 13. Rotating exhibits will be on display in the Quilt room. Currently there is a display of Civil War artifacts of the museum and information furnished by the Civil War 150 Committee. The new wall in the west wing of the basement has been completed. This will be a storage area. Debbie Zacharias and Kristen Knutson are helping Jared with re-arrangements. Instead of a garage sale in Debbie’s garage, the sale will be set up in the McKee barn. The dates are July 10 and 11. The State of Iowa Preservation Summit will be held in Winterset. There will be a banquet on the museum grounds Friday night, July 10. Museum membership categories have been updated to include senior, family and business. Volunteers are needed.  If you can give 5 hours during the week or 4 hours on Sunday a few times during the year it will be appreciated.

President Young had the ballots passed around for voting on board members. President Young recognized outgoing board members Mary Hart and Rich Kading who did not seek re-election, and Peggy Eichner who resigned and will become part of the museum staff. Two members of the board seeking re-election are Beverly Cline and Bill Paull. New candidates for the board are Jeri Beem, Charley Easter and Jon Jacobson.

President Young then turned the program over to Michael Vogt, curator of the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum at Camp Dodge. The topic was Iowa’s Role in World War II. Michael is an excellent speaker and presented an informative program that was enjoyed by all. Two World War II veterans present at the meeting were recognized. Bill Paull and Floyd Dickerson.

President Young reported the ballots had been counted and the candidates approved. Bob introduced the three newest board members to the membership. He said they would bring new spirit and energy to the Board.

President Young asked for a motion to adjourn. Don Stanley so moved, seconded by Bill Paull. Carried.
