Closure Due to Covid-19

Due to COVID-19: Closed for the 2020 season.

MCHS plans on reopening for the 2021 season on May 1st, 2021.

This decision was made out of concern for the health and safety of our visitors, volunteers, staff, and the Winterset community, and also for the protection of our historical collection, including structures and artifacts. During this time, all tours, programs, and events will be postponed, and the Museum, Resource Center, and outbuildings will remain closed.

In the meantime, we welcome you to enjoy the 18 acres of grounds at the Madison County Historical Complex, while following social distancing guidelines. All Museum animals, including poultry, will be cared for daily. Also, watch our Facebook page and website for new information as we announce COVID-19-safe activities for all to enjoy.

During this closure, Jared and Debbie will continue to be in the office daily. If you have any questions, please reach out by email: mchistory@historyonthehill.com or phone at (515) 462-2134. Both will be checked regularly.

We appreciate your patience at this time and thank you for your continued support of the Madison County Historical Society.

We wish you continued safety and good health as we look forward to future opportunities to welcome you to “History on the Hill” at the Madison County Historical Complex.
